A beautiful ancient Greek silver stater of Thourium, a Greek colony in southern Italy, built partially from the ruins of the once-powerful city of Sybaris. The naturalistic depiction of the powerful looking bull on the reverse demonstrates the masterful skill of the die engraver. The bull was an obvious choice of iconography as it had been used on the coinage of the Sybarites for several centuries. A very attractive coin with deep cabinet toning.
