This charming bronze statuette represents the Roman goddess Diana, and dates to the 2nd-3rd century AD. The figurine has been cast in the round using the lost wax method. Diana stands contrapposto - her weight balanced on her right foot. She is wearing a short chiton, carefully arranged, the folds of the drapery suggesting the figure is in motion. Her right hand is reaching to the quiver on her back and drawing an arrow, suggesting she may have held a bow in her missing left hand. Unusually, the original base is present. However, the statuette has been separated from the base, and no longer stands - this could easily be repaired for display. Wonderful condition with an even dark green patina. A rare chance to own an authentic, museum quality Roman bronze sculpture. Originally discovered in Macedonia and purchased from a European collector.
