A beautiful Carthaginian shekel dating to the era of the Punic Wars. The obverse portrays Tanit, a Punic goddess associated with agriculture - hence her wreath of grain. The reverse has a wonderfully naturalistic depiction of a horse’s head. An attractive example, well centred with an even dark brown patina.
